WHO & WHAT
Unique within the UK, The Greater London Authority represents all the councils of the London area, with powers over transport, policing, economic development, and fire and emergency planning. As with any major city, the day to day running, maintenance and development of London is an incredibly complex, nuanced endeavour.

TRAVELTIME BENEFITS
As part of the London Schools Atlas, TravelTime displays the time it takes to travel to the user’s specific school, helping them manage journeys and deciding if the school they’re interested in is logistically viable. It also helps users to understand their local area beyond scouting for schools – offering an insight into which areas are within reach. And because it’s a part of their daily lives and presented in a user friendly way, it’s quick and simple to understand.

HOW IT WORKS
TravelTime filters does away with a simple miles radius search, instead mapping an area based on how easily it can be accessed. A mile can take 5 or 50 minutes depending on the location, something that distance based searches won’t take into account. Beating the rush hour is an important factor for parents trying to find a suitable school for their

children, and with TravelTime, they won’t need to ask around, attempt test school runs or worse yet, find out the hard way. All the information they need is right at their fingertips – all they need to do is pick the school, TravelTime does the rest.

Paul Hodgson – GIS & Infrastructure Manager, Greater London Authority: Travel times in London are obviously critically important in so many ways. My team use Geographic Information Systems to support the work of the GLA Intelligence Unit. iGeolise provides us with information that helps keep London moving.

HOW TRAVELTIME CAN HELP YOU
TravelTime can be implemented across all spectrums of local government to improve ease of access for constituents. Specifically, it can help users find their nearest GP – and if that one is full, the most nearby alternative. It can also help remove the barrier of use for other public services, such as visiting recycling centres. If the user can see their nearest centre is just a short drive away in an easy to reach area, they’ll be far more inclined to visit. Searching for local authority services by time, not distance, would stand to be beneficial to both the council and the end user.
